Camp Koru #32: Surfing in Maui
On November 12, 2017, I embarked on an incredible journey. I was up at 3:00 AM to be at the airport around 6:00 AM and step on to a plane toward Maui, Hawaii.
The travel there was long and frustrating... delays, cancellations, so many hold-ups in travel, but so worth it.
The sun set over the Pacific ocean before I landed. It was dark in Hawaii when I finally touched down. I started the day at 3:00 AM in Elizabethtown, KY and ended the day around 8:00 PM in Maui, Hawaii - with a 5 hour timezone difference - meaning it was 1:00 AM back home. My day of travel lasted almost 24 hours.
BEAR picked me up at the airport. Bear was our camp doc. He told me about the island some during the drive to camp. It was late and I was so tired, I really just wanted to get some sleep! He talked me into choosing my power name right away - DRAGONFLY.
I came in and said hello to my cabin mates - 4 of us in one cabin - and we introduced ourselves by Power Name! Besides me (Dragonfly), our cabin consisted of Guts (Jennifer), Nightshade (Erica), and Kali (Tara). An array of personalities, lifestyles, and loves, all meshed together.
In the morning - FULL DAY # 1 - I awoke to find myself surrounded by beauty! Hawaii in the morning sunlight was AMAZING.
The beach behind our cabins! I got a few hours of sleep before bouncing out of bed to see the sunrise. I was just too excited to sleep!
The morning started with breakfast and we headed out for our first day of surfing!! I don't have any photos of our surfing on Day 1 because I did not take my phone for pictures. We also did a full "disconnect" during meals, so there are no photos of mealtimes. :)
We walked to the general store and PIE SHOP across the street. This is a miniature banana creme pie and it was out of this world!
